How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time! I know, I know….total cornball. However, if you think about it and apply it to your daily living, it can actually help you achieve goals that may currently seem impossible.
When you say, “I want to lose 50 pounds” it sounds incredibly hard. If you say I want to lose 50 pounds this year, which means 4.2 pounds a month, that doesn’t sound so bad does it? If losing 1 pound this week seems overwhelming to you, instead say, today I will drink more water than I did yesterday. At the end of the day you can pat yourself on the back for drinking more water. The following day you can drink more water AND go for a walk. There! That wasn’t so hard was it? Break it down into very do-able mini-goals.
We put entirely too much pressure on ourselves while having very little patience for results. Hell, we can get a 20 piece bucket of chicken and all the fixin’s for a family of 6 in the drive thru in 5 minutes. Why can’t we wake up a fit, tone goddess (or god)? Sorry, it’s just not gonna happen. I know, it sucks, right? That’s where mini-goals come into play. Sure you haven’t lost all 50 pounds, but you can now run a whole mile without stopping. Now your jeans fit a little better. Now you can lift more than before. Focus on the positive. Focus on the little things and celebrate them!
Here it is in simple language. Move more. Eat less. One. Bite. At. A. Time.
